Spectrum Health Services (SHS) has a rich history dating back to 1967. The organization was initially known as Better Family Planning, Inc. and opened its first clinic, Greater St. Matthews Medical Health Center, in that same year. Over the years, SHS expanded its services and opened additional medical health centers in Philadelphia.
In 1984, the organization changed its name to Spectrum Health Services, Inc. and became a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC). They continued to grow and offer a wider range of services, including family planning, prenatal care, pediatric care, and adult health services.
In 2013, SHS opened a new facility at 5201 Haverford Avenue. This state-of-the-art facility included dental services and earned LEED Silver Certification for its sustainable design.
SHS has been recognized for its commitment to quality care and is designated as a Level-3 Patient-Centered Medical Home by the National Committee for Quality Assurance.
In 2023, SHS expanded further by opening their fourth location at 3525 Cottman Avenue to serve individuals in the Northeast communities of Philadelphia.
Throughout its history, Spectrum Health Services has remained dedicated to providing accessible and affordable healthcare to all patients regardless of their ability to pay. They are committed to improving the health and well-being of the Philadelphia community they serve.
